Our second annual Day of Caring has been scheduled for Friday, October 16th.  The Day of Caring event promotes teamwork and gives people a taste of volunteering, while making a difference in the community. It is a day set aside to mobilize community members in volunteerism right here in Summit, New Providence and Berkeley Heights. Our volunteers will complete a wide range of taks similiar to last year including painting, gardening, performing minor renovations. reading to children, cleaning up a park, and participating in arts projects with seniors. Please complete the form at the bottom of the page to sign up now. Last year, our Day of Caring was a success. During the event, over 80 volunteers accomplished a great deal:

• We raked 15 lawns for senior citizens living in New Providence. (The    people raking got tea, cookies, and sincere thanks from the homeowners.)

• We painted the first floor hallway of the New Providence senior housing on Academy Street. (We received a special letter of thanks and gratitude from the manager of the building.) 

• We painted three bedrooms in the group home for disabled adults managed by Community Access.

• We repaired and painted the conference room walls in the Family Services offices, improving their work environment.

• We read to low income children in the Summit after-school programs run by The Connection.

• We participated in activities with senior citizens at SAGE and delivered Meals-on-Wheels to home-bound elderly.

• We cleaned trash in Wilson Park in Summit. The group cleaning trash included about 18 participants in ARC’s programs, and the participants enjoyed the opportunity to help others.
